Solana ETFs Pull In $188 Million as Developers Test Faster Transactions
Solana is attracting fresh investment through exchange-traded funds while developers test an upgrade designed to make transaction settlement dramatically faster.

Solana is facing an important test of its growing role in crypto markets: can interest from investors translate into lasting demand while the network continues improving the technology behind its transactions?
Two recent developments have brought that question into focus. US spot Solana exchange-traded funds recorded a weekly record of $188 million in net inflows, while developers advanced testing of an upgrade designed to reduce transaction finality to around 150 milliseconds. The figures point to activity on both the investment and infrastructure sides, although neither guarantees a sustained rise in SOL's price.
Institutional money is moving into Solana funds
Solana-focused investment products attracted $188 million in net inflows during the five trading sessions ending September 25, according to CoinDesk's September 28 report. All seven US spot Solana ETFs recorded inflows during the week.
Bitwise's BSOL led with approximately $128 million, accounting for about 68% of the weekly total. Grayscale's GSOL attracted $28 million, while Fidelity's FSOL recorded $18 million. The remaining funds collectively accounted for roughly $14 million.
Friday, September 25, accounted for nearly half of the week's total, with approximately $87 million entering the funds. It was the largest single-day intake for the group since the products began trading, the report said.
For investors unfamiliar with the products, spot ETFs provide exposure to SOL through a brokerage account without requiring investors to buy and manage the cryptocurrency directly. Net inflows measure money entering a fund after withdrawals; they do not simply represent the value of shares traded.
The figures indicate increased demand for regulated investment products linked to Solana, but they should not be mistaken for a guarantee that SOL will appreciate. Crypto prices remain sensitive to wider market conditions, investor sentiment and changes in demand.
A major speed upgrade is moving through testing
While investors watch the funds, developers are working on Solana's transaction infrastructure.
The network's planned Alpenglow upgrade has reached both its development network and public testnet, giving application developers an opportunity to test compatibility before any mainnet activation. The upgrade aims to reduce transaction finality from about 12.8 seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds, according to CoinDesk's September 26 report.
Transaction finality is the point at which a transaction is considered irreversible under the network's rules. Shortening that period could make Solana more suitable for applications that depend on rapid confirmation, including payments and trading.
However, the 150-millisecond figure remains a target under development, not a confirmed performance level on the live network. A mainnet launch date has not been announced, and the upgrade must be assessed under real operating conditions before its practical effects can be established.
What this means for SOL
Together, the developments highlight two different measures of progress. ETF inflows show that investors are putting more money into products offering exposure to SOL, while the Alpenglow tests reflect work on the network's underlying performance.
Neither measure tells the whole story. Strong fund inflows can coexist with price declines, and faster transaction processing does not automatically create greater demand for the SOL token. Adoption, competition, network reliability and broader crypto-market conditions will also matter.
For traders, the distinction is important: investment flows are a useful signal of demand, but they are not a price forecast. For developers and businesses, the upgrade is worth monitoring, but its intended speed should not be treated as an already delivered feature.
The next developments to watch are whether ETF inflows continue beyond the record week and when Alpenglow moves closer to a live-network launch.
